| Is
it easy to replace my Mercedes struts and shocks on
my Mercedes 300E? |
| Mercedes
300E shocks are a "piece of cake" to change
on the 124 chassis. The front suspension is a modified
McPherson strut design with a lower control arm and
a strut that locates the top of the wheel and keeps
it in place. The coil spring is not an integrated
part of the strut, but is located between the lower
control arm and the body. So it is almost like a conventional
shock in a sense. It's a very simple and elegant design.

Tip: Change one side at a time. When you
lift the front of your car up, remember to use
a floor jack and place it under each front control
are as far out as you can, with out touching
the wheel. This will effectively unload the
coil spring, and will make it safe to remove
the strut. |

| The
Mercedes 300E rear shocks are conventional.
They install with ease like all other Mercedes
Benz cars. You access the top of the shock through
the trunk. The bottom of the shock on the lower
control arm, just remember to remove the plastic
shield that is on the bottom of the lower arm.
We recommend replacing your shocks with Bilsteins.
These are premium units and are of excellent
quality. |
