| I
unlock the car, open the driver's door, and the alarm
goes off. What's wrong? |
| |
This
is a common problem that has been reported to us many
times concerning the alarm system of a Mercedes Benz.
To arm or disarm the car alarm you must lock or unlock
the driver's door. On some Mercedes Benz models you
may disarm or arm the alarm system by locking or unlocking
the trunk.
|
| |
|
| Integrated
into the driver's door and trunk locks are switches
that control the arming or disarming function
of the alarm. Over time this switches wear out.
The door switch usually wears out first, since
it is used the most frequently. A worn switch
will not make the proper contacts when the door
is unlocked causing the alarm system to activate
when the door is opened. |
|
| |
| Remember,
even though the switch is integrated with door
lock, it works independently from the mechanical
door part of the lock. A quick test to see if
the door switch is bad is to arm and then disarm
the alarm at the trunk. If the alarm doesn't
go off then, by process of elimination, the
alarm door switch is bad. |
| |
| Any
other problems that you may have with your Mercedes
Benz alarm system may require special diagnostic
equipment, and will need to be serviced by a
qualified Mercedes Benz technician.
