The intake port of an automobile’s fuel system has much to do with the engine’s efficient operation. Significantly, it’s responsible of ensuring smooth and even operation by charging each cylinder with equal strength and quality. In the early automotive eras, a device called carburetor is the one utilized to do that specific job. But due to its limitations, fuel injection system replaced it and became widely used as year 1990 stepped in.

There are essentially two types of fuel injection systems that a Mercedes Benz 450SL may use, the mechanical and electronic fuel injections. The first one is applicable only in diesel engine powered units, whereas the latter is designed for vehicles running with internal combustion engines. The two possess a nozzle which directly sprays and atomizes the fuel into the combustion chamber called fuel injector. It’s an electromechanical device or solenoid which is positioned in the air intake cavity or throttle body. Like all other fuel injectors, a Mercedes Benz fuel injector basically works in metering the gasoline in relation to the throttle movements and engine speed, so to ensure correct amount of fuel delivered into every cylinder.
