The brake system is a key component in all vehicles. For many people, it is considered as the most important system as it is concerned with the preservation of the life of drivers and passengers, as well as the pedestrians. There are various types of brake system that a vehicle may utilize – the disc brakes, drum brakes, exhaust brakes, and engine brakes. In the contemporary solutions, power brakes, the ABS or anti-lock brakes and EBD or electronic brakeforce distribution are as well added for stronger and more reliable braking.
The disc brake is the most efficient braking system, and most cars use it for the front wheels or for all four wheels. With what its name denotes disc brake system uses a circular disc to allow the generation of friction. Aside from the brake disc, this type of brake system is composed of three other basic components – the brake pads, the brake rotors, and the brake calipers. The brake caliper is a U-shaped clamp mounted with a piston in its inner sides, which functions in forcing the brake pads towards the rotors.
